오늘은 지난번 포스팅을 했던 내용중에 그린리버 커뮤니티 컬리지의 FSS 프로그램에 대해 질문과
답변을 통해 GRCC를 준비하는 학생들에게 도움을 주고자 합니다. 이 내용은 제가 학교에 공식 질을를
한 내용입니다. 새롭게 시작하는 미국 학교 생활에 조금이라도 도움이 되었으면 좋겠습니다.
1. 학생들은 얼마나 자주 학교의 멘토를 만나게 되나요?
- 매주 두시간 멘토들은 학생들과 만나게 되고 언제든지 학생들의 질문에 대해 전화로 답변을 해줍니다.
1. How many hours do you give the students with mentor? Mentors meet for 2 hours each week with students and are available by phone anytime to answer student questions.
2. 멘토들은 네이티브 스피커인가요? - 멘토들은 다른 국제학생들이 주로 되지만 네이티브가 되기도 합니다.
2. Are mentors native speakers? Mentors are other international students (some are native speakers as well).
3. 멘토들은 새로온 학생들을 위해 무엇을 하나요? - 멘토들은 학생들에게서 문제를 듣고 학생들이 도움이
필요한 부분을 돕습니다. 학생들의 학업에 대해서 돕기도 하고 지역과 캠퍼스 생활에 대해서도 돕습니다.
3. What do mentors do for the new comers? Mentors answer questions; listen to problems; help student get assistance; guide students' academic work; and help new students get familiar with the community and campus.
4. FSS가 액티비티 프로그램인가요? - 그렇게 단정 지을수는 없습니다. 멘토들은 일주일에 한시간동안 학생들과
정규적으로 만나게 되어 있습니다.
4. Is it in the class or outside activity program? Mentors meet with student during a 1 hour learning time and also for one additional hour per week.
5. 멘토들과 멘티들이 시간을 보낼때의 예를 들어 주세요?
- 수업 시간중에 멘토와 학생들은 작은 그룹을 구성해 시간 관리부터 편입까지 이해할 수 있도록 도와 줍니다.
각각을 멘토는 4,5명의 멘티들을 돕는데 한쿼터 동안을 돕습니다. 각각 그룹이 되어 서로 만나기도 하고
때로는 정해지지 않은 시간에도 함께 시간을 보내기도 합니다. 쇼핑부터 도서관 시간 또는 스포츠 등 다양한
활동들을 서로 동의하에 같이 하기도 합니다.
5. Would you give me the example of the time they spend? During the learning time (called module time) students and mentors work in small groups to understand a weekly learning point ranging from Time Management to University Transfer. Each Mentor has 4 or 5 students they are assigned to work with per quarter and this group will meet together each week. Mentors also meet an additional hour with their mentees in an informal setting which is agreed upon by the students and their Mentor. It could be a shopping trip, lunch, time at the library, playing a sport or anything they decide will be a fun time.
